Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the ambient air is the most common component of the atmosphere in any indoor or outdoor environment, and the cause can be rather different, from natural sources or artificial, built by human objects and activities related to our civilized world. Now the VOC is divided into very volatile compounds (VVOC), VOC, and semivolatile compounds (SVOC), which are derived from their physical properties and interaction with the ambient air.

Most common VOC can be identified by the methods ISO 16000-6 2021 Determination of organic compounds (VVOC, VOC, SVOC) in indoor and test chamber air by active sampling on sorbent tubes, thermal desorption and gas chromatography using MS or MS FID, BC Environmental Laboratory Manual Section H – TD Tubes with thermal desorption sampling device and NIOSH 1501 for aromatic hydrocarbons, are more progressive techniques to collect the most of VOC in the ambient air, which gives the more accurate qualitative and quantitative results.
